Later, a Day Class student collapses, with fang marks in her neck. After watching Zero drink Yuki's blood and talking to Yuki, he resolves his issues and returns to the Moon Dorm. He, Ichijo and Akatsuki Kain go to the Senate itself to testify for Zero, while Aido runs away to the Sun Dorms because he was upset about witnessing Shizuka's death. Kaname interrupts, and stands against the Senate. The Night Class reports to the Vampire Senate that it was Zero who killed Shizuka Hio, and they send assassins to take care of him. Ichiru flees angrily, vowing revenge against Zero and the school. Aido, who had been eavesdropping on Kaname and Shizuka, was the sole witness of her death. Zero smells blood, and a panicking Ichiru runs to Shizuka's side. Kaname gains new powers that seem to cast a shadow over his heart, changing it into something dark and deadly.Meanwhile, Zero seems to be recovering from the ordeal, but is troubled by the loss of the target of his hatred - and Yuki lives in fear of the day Zero loses his sanity. Shizuka Hio is dead, and the Council of Elders seems to eager to execute Zero for the crime, even though he has not been proven guilty.
